Paper abstract:Abu-Shaar and Umm al-Huwaytat lagoons are virtually influenced by anthropogenic activities while Marsa Shuni lagoon is affected by natural inputs. Foraminiferal tests show high concentrations of iron especially in Umm al-Huwaytat lagoon (bioaccumulation). Coastal lagoons recorded high concentration of most measured heavy metals, especially cadmium in Umm alHuwaytat lagoon. The high concentration of heavy metals in Umm al-Huwaytat lagoon can be attributed to pollution resulting from different human activities.Concentration of heavy metals, which is measured in the foraminiferal species in the coastal lagoons, may serve as an indicator which helps mangers to identify anthropogenic impacts and assess the need for remediation measures.
